SAP CPI (Cloud Platform Integration) now officially called SAP Integration Suite (Cloud Integration) is a cloud-based middleware tool from SAP that helps connect different systems, applications, and data sources across cloud and on-premise environments.

🔹 Definition

SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI) is a cloud service on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) that allows you to integrate SAP and non-SAP systems using pre-built adapters, integration flows, and APIs.

🔹 Purpose

The main goal of CPI is to:

• Exchange data securely between different systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA ↔ Salesforce)

• Orchestrate business processes that span multiple systems

• Reduce manual integrations by using pre-configured content from SAP

🔹 Common Use Cases

1. SAP S/4HANA ↔ SAP SuccessFactors — Sync employee data

2. SAP S/4HANA ↔ SAP Ariba — Automate procurement processes

3. SAP S/4HANA ↔ Third-party systems — e.g., CRM, logistics, or e-commerce apps

4. On-premise ↔ Cloud integration — Connect SAP ECC or legacy systems to the cloud

🔹 Architecture Overview

SAP CPI runs entirely in the cloud and consists of:

1. Design — Create or customize integration flows (iFlows)

2. Deploy & Monitor — Deploy your iFlows and track message processing

3. Adapters — Handle communication (SOAP, REST, IDoc, SFTP, JDBC, OData, etc.)

4. Security — Uses certificates, OAuth, and encrypted channels

🔹 Integration Flow (iFlow)

An iFlow is the core artifact in CPI.
It defines how data moves from one system to another — including:

• Sender and receiver systems

• Data mappings and transformations (XML, JSON, CSV, etc.)

• Filters, conditions, and routing rules
